<br />
The odds of a crash are considerably shorter than those given for the asteroid Apophis, which has a 1 in 250,000 chance of striking Earth in 2036.<br />
<br />
A report in the solar system journal, Icarus, said the odds of an earlier impact were more remote but increased by 2080 when its orbit will bring it swinging back towards Earth.<br />
<br />
Maria Eugenia Sansaturio from the Universidad de Valladolid in Spain, who co-led the research, told Universe Today that knowledge of the risk posed by the asteroid "may help design in advance mechanisms aimed at deviating the asteroid's path."<br />
<br />
It was first discovered in 1999 and is more than twice the size of Apophis. If it were to hit it is likely to cause widespread devastation and possible mass extinction.</blockquote>

			<description><![CDATA[<blockquote><cite>Quote:</cite>A report based on analysis of huge amounts of net traffic has revealed the state of the internet around the globe.<br />
<br />
The data, from network giant Akamai reveals the average global net speed is only 1.7Mbps (megabits per second) although some countries have made strides towards faster services.<br />
<br />
The fastest broadband city in the world is Masan in South Korea.<br />
<br />
In the speed league table, the UK is ranked 27th out of 201 countries, with an average speed of 3.8Mbps.<br />
<br />
This is below the 5.2Mbps average speed calculated by regulator Ofcom in its annual broadband report.<br />
<br />
The UK has slipped slightly compared to its 23rd ranking in the last Akamai report, which are compiled quarterly.<br />
<br />
"Other countries have got faster," said David Belson, head of market intelligence at Akamai.<br />
<br />
The Akamai State of the Internet report finds that the average maximum speed enjoyed by UK surfers is 12Mbps.<br />
<br />
Even in South Korea, which tops the speed league table and is often perceived as enjoying super-fast broadband as the norm, the average speed is a relatively slow 12Mbps, with the average maximum hitting 33Mbps.<br />
<br />
"100Mbps is available in South Korea but it is often at prices that are not affordable by the general public. It can cost several hundred dollars a month," said Mr Belson.</blockquote>

			<description><![CDATA[<blockquote><cite>Quote:</cite>Nairobi, Kenya (CNN) -- At least 19 people died in a Nairobi slum after drinking illegal local brew, which may have been laced with chemicals to make it more potent, a government official said.<br />
<br />
An additional 11 more people from the Kibera area are hospitalized, complaining of stomach pains after drinking the brew popularly known as changa'a, said local official Richard Juma.<br />
<br />
Police arrested 51 people during a raid for allegedly possessing changa'a, and were being held at a local police station, he said.<br />
<br />
"As a government, we are not happy about this incident," Juma said. "We will continue to raid where we think the brew dens are located until this menace is completely done away with."<br />
<br />
A sample of the changa'a has been taken to a government chemist for testing.<br />
<br />
Changa'a is sold cheaply in Nairobi slums. While it can take a long time to prepare, greedy brewers lace it with chemicals to hasten the process and to make it more potent. There have been a number of deaths from drinking changa'a in recent years. Other people have been blinded.<br />
<br />
"The reason these people continue to drink this harmful alcohol even with awareness of its deadly ramifications is because some of the residents here don't care about their lives, they'd rather drink all day," Juma said.</blockquote>

The rock, a few inches long and believed to be up to 4.5 billion years old, broke in two when it hit the ground in front of them close to the pitch.<br />
<br />
The pair – both Sussex members – were sitting square of the wicket watching the England player Luke Wright bat with Monty Panesar when they spotted the black, five-inch rock hurtling towards them.<br />

Mr Marszel, an IT consultant, said: “We were sitting at the boundary edge when all of a sudden, out of a blue sky, we saw this small dark object hurtling towards us.<br />

The pair have kept the seemingly extraterrestrial pieces of rock for posterity and said they would be happy for experts to examine them.<br />

At the same time, however, the UAE is trying to establish itself as an international business hub.<br />

This is the second major controversy over the BlackBerry in the UAE. A year ago, the Middle East country's biggest state-run mobile operator was caught encouraging unwitting BlackBerry users to install software on the devices that could allow outsiders access to the devices.<br />
<br />
In the latest fiasco, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has said that the BlackBerry manages data in a way that could allow it to be misused. BlackBerry devices were singled out because they are the only phones operating in the country that automatically relay users' information to privately managed data centres overseas, the regulator said.<br />

"As a result of how Blackberry data is managed and stored, in their current form, certain Blackberry applications allow people to misuse the service, causing serious social, judicial and national security repercussions," the regulator said in a statement.<br />

It said that BlackBerry devices operate "beyond the jurisdiction" of national laws because they immediately send data abroad to be "managed by a foreign, commercial organisation."</blockquote>

<p>Game retailer Gamestop has acquired flash game site Kongregate.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Kongregate advances GameStop&#8217;s digital strategy by providing a gaming platform for casual, mobile and browser games that can be promoted and played by our existing gamers,&#8221;</p>
<p>J.Paul Raine, CEO</p></blockquote>
<p>Kongregate is a very popular time waster for up to 10 million users a month, who.it is claimed, spend 23 million hours on the site. The site follows a YouTube like model, with games developers uploading their creations for the community.</p>
<p>Since more people are getting their games,like movies and music, from the web, this deal makes sense for Gamestop.</p>
<p>Kongregate has this to say:</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>BIG NEWS!</strong></p>
<p>GameStop bought Kongregate. What does this mean for us?</p>
<p><strong>Wait, what?</strong></p>
<p>In technical terms, Kongregate has been acquired by GameStop as a wholly-owned subsidiary. In non-technical terms, this means that all your Kongregates are belong to GameStop.</p>
<p><strong>All of them?</strong></p>
<p>Yes. We also gave them 10,000 internets.</p>
<p><strong>But I *LOVE* Kongregate!</strong></p>
<p>We love you too, and so does GameStop! We decided to accept GameStop&#8217;s offer because they love us and love you, and want us to continue to be one big, happy family. No, really. GameStop likes us for who we are and is not looking to change Kongregate &#8211; they just want to help us grow and improve.</p>
<p><strong>BUT WAIT &#8211; WUT ABT GERG?! Will he be replaced by a robot who is also really tall and makes 192387219873 badges a day?</strong></p>
<p>To be fair, Greg isn&#8217;t the only Kong employee. But never fear, Kongregants, none of us are going anywhere. If anything, we&#8217;ll be inviting more people to the endless party that is Kong. They have to bring a side dish, though. This all goes back to the &#8220;GameStop <3&#8217;s Kong&#8221; thing we were talking about earlier.</p>
<p><strong>So, uh, how much did Kong get bought for, anyway? Just sayin.</strong></p>
<p>Not tellin&#8217;. <img src='http://www.nerinonline.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt='<img src="http://nerinonline.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align: middle;" border="0" alt="Tongue" title="Tongue" />' class='wp-smiley' />  No, really. The number is confidential.</p>
<p><strong>Change is scary. What can I expect?</strong></p>
<p>I have on good authority that we&#8217;re finally going to lose the &#8220;beta&#8221; tag. Past that, really not too much. GameStop resources will allow us to improve the site much more quickly, but we&#8217;re going to stay the same site that you have grown to know and lo- well, tolerate.</p>
<p><strong>Seriously &#8211; Can we haz stufz?</strong></p>
<p>ACTUALLY! We&#8217;re trying to hook you guys up with some rad stuff to reward the time and energy you put into Kongregate. The plan is to do this through <a href="http://www.poweruprewards.com/">GameStop&#8217;s PowerUp rewards program</a>.</p>
<p><strong>I have this &#8220;D&#8221; next to my name. Are things going to be different for me?</strong></p>
<p>Not much! We&#8217;re not making any changes to our uploading process, or to the way our rev share works. However since GameStop has over 6,000 stores and a lot of customers, it&#8217;s pretty darn likely your games will be seen by even more people, and will generate more money! Speaking of which, thanks for the games. They&#8217;re pretty swell.</p>
<p><strong>So&#8230;things are mostly staying the same?</strong></p>
<p>Yep! We&#8217;ve had a lot of cool stuff planned for the site and for you guys for a while now, and now that we&#8217;re with GameStop it&#8217;ll get done a lot faster. Other than that, business as usual.</p>
<p><strong>BUT I HAVE A QUESTION!</strong></p>
<p>Yes, you may use the restroom. Oh, it wasn&#8217;t that? Well then <a href="http://www.kongregate.com/forums/1-kongregate/topics/102458-exciting-big-time-news-kongregates-been-acquired-by-gamestop">ask us in the forums</a> and we&#8217;ll do our best to answer it.</p>
<p><strong>Is there anything else? Or can I go now?</strong></p>
<p>Well&#8230;there is one thing.</p>
<p><strong>WE LOVE YOU.</strong></p>
<p>This site is pretty cool, we admit, but we really think that most of what makes it awesome is the people on it. Whether you&#8217;re providing us with amazing games, helping to keep the site clean, or just helping by being around and being awesome, this site wouldn&#8217;t be anything without you guys. So thanks for helping to make the site what is is, and we hope you&#8217;ll stick around with us for this next exciting chapter of The Kongregate Adventure©.</p>

No, really. <p>Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the President of Iran, has attacked Paul, the “psychic” octopus who correctly predicted the outcome of the World Cup 2010.</p>
<p>Ahmadinejad called Paul a “symbol of decadence and decay” and said he is what is wrong with the Western world, who he has called “enemies”.</p>
<p>He also accused Paul, who lives in the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre, Germany , of spreading &#8220;western propaganda and superstition.&#8221;</p>
<p>Ahmadinejad has been previously accused of corruption, appointing close associates to positions where they have no qualifications.</p>

<p>In comparison, Paul the octopus, is two years old, lives in a tank, eats mussels and is supposedly possessing spooky psychic powers.</p>

Four white South Africans have been convicted of humiliating five black university domestic staff after a video of the incident was posted online.<br />
<br />
The men, all students at the University of the Free State at the time, had been on trial but earlier pleaded guilty to crimen injuria.<br />
<br />
The video showed the five staff being made to kneel and forced to eat food which had apparently been urinated on by one of the students.<br />
<br />
The men will be sentenced on Wednesday.<br />
<br />
The video of a mock initiation ceremony caused a national outcry and protests against racism when it surfaced in 2008.<br />
<br />
The BBC's Karen Allen, in court in the predominantly white town of Bloemfontein, says the trial has been seen as deeply symbolic in a country trying to come to grips with its racially divided past, 16 years after the end of white minority rule.<br />
Vomit-inducing<br />
<br />
She says the long-awaited trial of the four former students - RC Malherbe, Johnny Roberts, Schalk van der Merwe and Danie Grobler - has attracted widespread media attention.<br />

<br />
South Africa's different racial and cultural groups usually live in harmony with each other.<br />
<br />
However, while they mix daily in the workplace, at school and sometimes to socialise, they generally lead separate lives.<br />
<br />
The World Cup showed that South Africans can unite behind a single cause, but racism is still a sensitive subject here.<br />
<br />
It only takes one racially charged incident to drive people to align with those of their own skin colour.<br />
<br />
Nelson Mandela's "rainbow nation" has not yet been realised.<br />
<br />
This is not least because defence lawyer Kemp J Kemp represented President Jacob Zuma in a rape case four years ago, our reporter says. Mr Zuma was acquitted.<br />
<br />
In a statement read out by their lawyer, the men said that the video had been made to demonstrate the traditions of their hall of residence and to protest at plans to make the university more racially mixed.<br />
<br />
They said the food had not been urinated on - that had been an illusion.<br />
<br />
They also claim the staff had taken part willingly.<br />
<br />
But the men agreed that they would never have performed their actions if they had known the consequences.<br />
<br />
In the video, apparently filmed in 2007, the four women and a man were forced to drink full bottles of beer and perform athletic tasks.<br />
<br />
But it is the final extract of the film that most angered members of the public.<br />
<br />
It seems to show a white male urinating on food, and then shouting "Take! Take!" in Afrikaans and apparently forcing the campus employees to eat the dirty food, and causing them to vomit.<br />
<br />
Last year, the first black director of the University of the Free State, Jonathan Jansen, courted controversy by inviting the students back as a gesture of reconciliation.<br />
<br />
His decision was condemned by both the ruling African National Congress and opposition parties.</blockquote>

Police Chief Greg Geppert says Hawkins robbed the bank at gunpoint, using a toy BB gun he had shoplifted from a store.<br />

			<description><![CDATA[<blockquote><cite>Quote:</cite>Britons are not getting the broadband services they are being sold, research by the regulator Ofcom suggests.<br />
<br />
Its analysis of broadband speeds in the UK shows that, for some services, 97% of consumers do not get the advertised speed.<br />
<br />
It also shows a growing gap between the claims ISPs make for broadband and the speed being delivered.<br />
<br />
To fix the problem, Ofcom is revamping the code of conduct for ISPs and asking for changes to how broadband is sold.<br />
<br />
The regulator's survey shows that the average residential broadband speed in the UK has risen in the last 12 months from 4.1Megabits per second (Mbps) to 5.2Mbps.<br />
<br />
The report also reveals the changing nature of UK broadband. Now 65% of UK homes have fixed line broadband and 24% of those users are on services sold as being able to support 10Mbps or more. By contrast, in April 2009 only 8% of homes had signed up for such a service.<br />
<br />
Unveiling the figures, Ed Richards, chief executive of Ofcom, said the survey revealed a "growing gap" between what people were sold and the reality of their broadband service.<br />
<br />
"The gap between the average headline speed and actual speed has increased in this period even though the actual speed has risen," he said.</blockquote>

Rolf Heuer, director-general of the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) which runs the LHC, told the International Conference on High Energy Physics in Paris experiments were progressing faster than expected and entering a stage in which "new physics" would emerge.<br />

<br />
Adults, including family members, are banned from searching through children's computers or phones under a new regional law passed in Chongqing, southwest China, state media reported today. The regulation outlaws snooping into their emails, text messages, web chats, and browser history. The regulation is designed to protect the rights of children, but is surprising given widespread concern in China about excessive internet use among young people and their access to unsuitable material. Psychologists have sought to have internet addiction listed as a clinical disorder and treatment camps have sprung up across the country. The Chongqing Evening Post described the new regulation, adopted on Friday by officials in Chongqing, as the first of its kind in the country. Other Chinese media said it expanded an existing national rule. But both experts and children doubted whether it would have an impact in practice.<br />
<br />
Lu Yulin, a professor at the China Youth University of Political Science, told China Daily that children were unlikely to take their parents to court.<br />
<br />
"Parents who habitually check such information won't stop due to the regulation," he said.</blockquote>
